Ring of Red Konami (KCE Studios)2001

[32]***This strategy game is like no other you've ever played. Ring of Red is set in a world where Japan didn't surrender after the atomic bombs were dropped on it. Similar to the actual Korean War, you'll lead U.S. forces and a fragmented Japanese army against the Soviets. Thrown into the mix is the addition of Mech technology supposedly developed by the Germans. If you're a strategy fan or wargame buff, then check this game out.

Armored Core 2: Another Age Metro 3D (From Software)2001Five years have passed in the Armored Core story line. The government of earth is rebuilding after the destruction it suffered during the coup led by Leos Klain, Martian rebel. Heavy casualties have resulted in a brain drain, leaving technology and science to languish. Clearly vulnerable, the government mounts an armament campaign.***
[32]***The #1 mech simulation game, Armored Core 2 is back on the PS2 with Armored Core 2: Another Age. This expansion offers over 100 new missions for you to tackle. The action is very similar to Armored Core 2, with the exception that the weapons, multiplayer, and mech-creation aspects of the game have been improved. With all the new part combinations, you can literally create thousands of different types of mechs.

Pilot giant mechs into combat against some of the deadliest enemies on the planet. There are now more than 200 available parts and accessories for you to earn and customize your A.C. units. Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter  Capcom;CE Europe (Capcom)2002The story and location (the world) are unrelated to earlier BoF games, gameplay also was revised almost completely. Besides using some very recognizable parts of the series (Ryu, Nina, transformation into a "dragon", etc.), the reason for labeling this game under BoF is a marketing mystery. If they had bothered to completely cut ties with BoF, the experimental nature of the game would've likely been received much better instead of being targeted by BoF fans with scorn. The greatest flaw of the game to me is the complete lack of voice overs which is somewhat unusual for games this "new".***difficulty-single - despite this, every time your whole party dies the game gets easier as current party XP and gained skills are transferred back to the point when you made the save. This can be omitted, though.
midas' touch - Ryu's dash and D-dive abilities.

bioroids - the genics.
pigmen - duke genics
minotaurs - deathcow genics
blobs - the various goo creatures
insectoids - there's a variety, though most commonly you see the ant-like midget humanoids who work in the fairy colony.

minigames - the fairy colony management. It's much more useful and time consuming than it might sound based on it being a minigame.

performance issues - with 3+ enemies and placing one or more magical wards (especially electrical) the camera movement and movement circle appearance becomes stuttery.

--- notes for future

It's an epic quest of magical proportions. You live in another time, another place, devoid of all light sources. You are now part of the underground world. Foil your menacing enemies to reach your ultimate mission. Only you can discover the way out of the labyrinth-like dungeon that envelops you and your friends. Escape your underground captors and you'll reach the world of the living. Breath of Fire V is the first of the series to appear on the PS2, and offers visually stunning cel-shaded subterranean worldsettings and an entirely new real-time/ turn-based battle system. Breath of Fire V will keep you impressed for a long, long time!***I've heard almost nothing but bad things about this game, probably because it's quite different from its predecessors, but I quite liked it. The most notable change from previous Breath of Fire titles it the new battle system, which plays more like a strategy RPG similar to Arc the Lad. Also, Dragon Quarter is more like a giant dungeon crawler instead of a traditional Japanese RPG with an overworld to explore. This game is a lot more challenging than its predecessors and if you're upto the challenge, I think you'd find the game quite entertaining (and you can pick it up for dirt cheap online!).

Destroy All Humans! One Giant Step On Mankind  THQ (Pandemic Studios)2005Crypto-136 crashlands on Earth after a spacerocket hitting his saucer squarely to the bottom. Crypto-137 and Pox come to investigate what happened, and the events escalate into an all out war between Furons and the U.S. (their military and the Majestic secret service). Crypto-137 later finds the remains of Crypto-136 and decides to take revenge on all of humanity, though mostly Majestic.

It should be noted that the Furons see Humans as evil, backwater planet dwellers of primitive intellect, originally seen only suitable for breeding specific kind of DNA material (which Crypto-137 harvests when he can from all the shooting).

Since the Crypto is a clone series, Crypto-137 considers itself to be the same person as Crypto-136 and any before them. Canonically Crypto-137 survives DAH1, though the number is incremented each time the player dies.***Weapons:

Armored Core: Last Raven Agetec (From Software)2005Being prepared in anticipation of the series' 10th anniversary, Last Raven takes the series back to its roots following last year's experimental Formula Front. Over 70 missions of varying difficulty are included, along with a full story mode where you get to make decisions on how the story progresses. This time, you're in full control of your mech, as you play as a "Raven" pilot, working your way through a full storyline that takes place over a 24 hour period. The game includes selectable missions and, typical of the series, lots of customization. As you play, you'll be presented with decisions that affect how the story, and subsequent missions, unfold. labelimagesubject
